Arrived for a no-cool call. The customer reported uneven cooling upstairs and no cooling downstairs. The upstairs system is operating but needs attention. The main issues were a dirty filter and closed vents on one side of the home, which restricted airflow and caused uneven temperatures. The system is also has not been properly maintained and will need to be serviced for the system to run at it’s optimum efficiencies. The downstairs system was not operating. We found a failed contactor and the system to be extremely low on refrigerant, which caused it to shut off on low pressure. The outdoor unit is also dirty, contributing to reduced efficiency. Came out today to complete two system $59 inspection. Upon arrival, customer stated that everything has been working good to her knowledge. Upon inspection of the upstairs system found a Bryant gas furnace from 1996 paired with a Goodman straight AC 2 ton from 2023. Upon inspection of the system found the heat exchanger to be rusty, the blower wheel was very dirty, the blower capacitor had failed, the refrigerant charge was low, the outdoor condenser coil was dirty, the light switched to turn the system on and off had been bypassed, there was no flood protection nor UV protection for the system. Upon inspection of the downstairs system found a temp store gas furnace from 2016 70,000 BTU paired with a Rheem straight AC 2 1/2 ton from 2016, upon an inspection of this system found the blower will to be dirty and the condenser coil to be dirty as well. Whole House Electrical Check-up. Includes checking of all major electrical components and spot checking existing outlets and switches. FINDINGS: went over inspection report left by inspector to confirm and also came across a few other items he missed electrically. my main concern here is the Challenger panel, which has a number of code violations, such as double tapped neutrals, a mismatched breaker, a double tap breaker, non-rated panel screws holding the cover to the panel and it is not labeled properly. panel also does not have any surge protection or AFCI and GFCI breakers as well. Another serious concern here is the 10 gauge wire going to the air handler in the attic which is only rated to handle up to 30 A their handler upstairs has a max rating of 60. I do not recommend using HVAC circuit until that is addressed. There is a high risk of the panel overheating as well once the HVAC circuit is repaired due to Challenger panels having a history of overheating where large circuits
