When Do You Need to Replace an AC Unit?

As a general rule of thumb, your AC may be up for replacement if it’s been 10-15 years since it was installed.  And a heat pump will last about 15 years.  This, of course, varies depending on the efficiency of the unit and if it was sized correctly for your home, the manufacturer, how it was installed, how repairs were handled, and how consistently it was maintained (new filters, calibration, cleaning, etc.).

You definitely need an HVAC repair tech when you experience the following, but keep in mind that any of these “signs” could also point toward needing a new unit:

  • Making sounds
  • Uneven cooling
  • Icing up
  • Increasing utility bills
  • Water leaks
  • Oily residue (on unit components)
  • Thermostat reads lower than actual temperature

The efficiency of a new unit

Older AC systems cost more to run, adding up to yearly expenses that just don’t make sense. Replacing your air-conditioning system with a newer high-efficiency one can reduce your monthly cooling bill by up to 50 percent, which means your equipment will “pay for itself” in a matter of time.  Meanwhile, you’ll be enjoying complete temperature control, a quieter system operation, and increased indoor comfort.

We’ll make sure you get an AC unit or heat pump with a S.E.E.R. rating and output that makes sense for the size of your home, so you’re not paying for energy you can’t use or feeling the heat for a lack of it.

How Long Will It Take to Install My New Central Air-Conditioning Unit?

Not long!  Once you decide to install a new air-conditioner or heat pump, we can generally remove the old system, place the new one, hook up the wiring and ductwork, test and calibrate the controls, and have you up and running again in a single day.

So don’t bother booking a hotel room!  Getting on our calendar is easy because we have a team of technicians that do this type of work all day, every day.  We show up first thing in the morning and don’t leave until the job is done.

Will There Be A Big Mess?

There shouldn’t be!  Our HVAC technicians are conscientious about your home and wear shoe covers when they are indoors (so don’t even think about muddy boots sloshing up your stairs and across your carpets)!  We stock our trucks with drop cloths, coveralls (for working in dirty attics and crawlspaces), brooms, dust pans, garbage bags…you get the idea.

When we install a new AC, we take away all of the packaging, the old equipment, and any debris created by the job.  You’re left with your new unit, the instruction manuals, and a cool home (unless you just really want to keep that old broken air-conditioner as a souvenir)!

We always do a final walk-through on every job just to make sure everything looks good and that we haven’t left any loose ends.

Types of Units We Install

While we are definitely fan favorites of the “Carrier” family of air-conditioners, including their Infinity, Performance, and Comfort Series, we install just about any residential air-conditioning unit, mini-split/ductless system, air handler, and heat pump you can come up with.

If it’s an air conditioner, we install it!  Some of the name brands you might see on your equipment include: Amvent, AirCon, AirEase, Allied, American Standard, Armana, Armstrong, Bryant, Carrier, Celiera, Coleman, Comfort-Aire, Concord, Daikin, Diamond Air, Ducane, Eco-Breeze, EMI, Fujitsu, Friedrich, Frigidaire, Goodman, Gree, Halcyon, Ideal Air, Impecca, Kelvinator, Klimaire, Lennox, LG, Luxaire, Maytag, Midea, Mitsubishi, Nortek, Panasonic, Payne, Pioneer, Pridiom, Ramsond, Rheem, Samsung, Senville, Tempstar, ThermoSpace, Trane, Rudd, Westinghouse, Yonan and York.

When we recommend a new AC unit we look at quality, warranty, usability, energy-efficiency, and output that matches the size of the space to be cooled.

What Type of Warranty Comes with My New Cooling System?

We offer a life-long warranty on all of our installations, in addition to any limited warranty provided with your equipment or extended warranty offered by the manufacturer.  That means, if something about our installation fails (i.e. we installed it poorly) you’re 100 percent covered.

Just call and let us know.

But we like call backs about as much as you do, that’s why we send only qualified technicians, inspect all of our work when we’re done, and do a final walk-through with you, our customer, making sure you’re 100 percent happy with the job.  But mistakes happen, parts fail, and there are “perfect storms” so if that’s the case, just let us know.  We give priority preference to warranty calls with our same-day scheduling, two-hour arrival windows, and 30-minute heads up when we’re on our way.  Click HERE to read more about our lifetime service warranty.

How We’re Qualified

There are a lot of heating & cooling companies in Atlanta wanting your attention, especially when you have the least amount of time imaginable!  So our promise is simple:  If you see a heating & cooling technician in our uniform, he’ll be both state-licensed and TE-Certified.  TE Certified techs are specialists.  They are also W-2 employees of our company which means they answer to us for every minute they’re in the field, at your home, and working on your equipment.  And believe it or not, we probably require better work performance than even our customers!

Our technicians complete many hours of extensive in-house training, and pass written exams, code testing, and hands-on skill assessments.  But their training doesn’t stop there.  Mandatory weekly training sessions keep them up-to-date on the latest in heating & cooling trends; the newest innovations; and the city, state and federal heating & cooling guidelines.

While there may be several ways to service an AC unit that are “OK,” we follow an extensive set of “best practices” that we are constantly sharpening so you know you’re getting the best quality workmanship in Atlanta.
