Service Summary / Completed Repairs Came out to address a no-cool condition and performed a full diagnostic of the system. During troubleshooting, I found multiple electrical and control issues that were preventing proper operation. I replaced the failed control board and transformer, then rewired the indoor and outdoor low-voltage circuits according to the manufacturer’s wiring schematic. I also repaired the damaged outdoor thermostat wire to restore proper communication and control between the indoor and outdoor equipment. For added condensate protection, I installed a TE Certified wet switch. This safety device is designed to shut the HVAC system down if water begins collecting in the drain pan, helping reduce the risk of overflow and water damage. I also repaired a damaged supply duct to restore proper airflow and prevent conditioned air from being lost into the surrounding space. Today’s visit was for the upstairs unit not coming on. Checked thermostat. Inspected the indoor unit. It is a 25 year old furnace. I found the ignition control board is bad. Also no flood protection present. The unit is also undersized on return ductwork. It has 1-12” and 1-8” return. Checked the outdoor unit. Found the condenser coils extremely dirty on both systems. I informed the customer that the board most likely will be unavailable due to age. Also the supply house is closed and would be tomorrow before I could check availability. After discussing things we decided a consultation would be the best course of action. Also we will quote replacement of both units and adding a 3rd system with ductwork for the basement. Came out to a no-cool call. After completing a full diagnostic of the system, I found that the air handler transformer is producing the proper 24 volts, confirming that the low-voltage power supply is present. However, that 24-volt power is not being properly distributed through the air handler control board and Molex connection. Testing across the board showed only approximately 10 volts being passed through where proper 24-volt control voltage should be present. Based on the voltage testing performed today, the air handler control board appears to have failed and is preventing the system from receiving the proper low-voltage signals required for normal operation. The indoor evaporator coil and outdoor condenser coil are both clean and currently free of any major airflow restrictions. Standing refrigerant pressures also appeared normal at the time of testing. Called out for leak underground at near the meter gave estimate for exploratory dig and to dig and repair service line. Customer agreed I dug down to the service line. Found the leak cut out bad part and installed new fittings section of pipe and shut off with meter box after the meter tested with no leaks at this time and working properly.

Came out to a no-cool call and performed a full diagnostic on the 2.5-ton Carrier R-410A system. After checking the refrigeration, electrical, airflow, and drainage sides of the system, I found that the unit is extremely low on refrigerant, which indicates an active leak somewhere in the sealed refrigeration circuit. The system itself is relatively new and is still covered under the manufacturer’s parts warranty. Because of that, any failed covered component should be provided under warranty, but labor, refrigerant, recovery, evacuation, and related repair costs are not covered by the manufacturer warranty. I also checked compressor operation. The compressor is starting at approximately 244 amps and settling around 7 amps while running. The condenser data plate lists the compressor at 71.3 LRA, so the startup amperage is significantly elevated. That tells me the compressor is under considerable stress during startup. Performed diagnostic on 2yr old Goodman heat pump, upon arrival customer stated unit stopped cooling last night, checked both tstats, cycled to ac mode, went to attic to inspect unit, recommend changing 10” bypass to 12”bypass, also recommend adding 10” return for proper airflow, recommend better flood protection such as wet switch, replaced filter, checked evap coil, upon checking outdoor unit found not running, no 240v, found tripped break, reset breaker unit started up, but not compressor, after about 3min compressor kicked in, over amping, also pulling high amps on RLA, turned off to see if compressor would start back up and this time it took about 4min before compressor started up, let unit run to continue diagnostic, checked capacitor, contactor, checked pressures and temp split, after letting unit run for over 30min, shut unit down and started it back up, unit did start right up this time, recommend replacing compressor due to failing, went over all options, customer wanted to h

Performed diagnostic on ac unit 20+yrs, unit didn’t have any model or serial number info, couldn’t tell exact age, upon arrival customer stated ac unit was cooling and he not sure how long, checked tstst, recommend updating to digital tstat, cycled to ac mode, unit started up, went to crawlspace to inspect furnace, furnace is older furnace as well no info, blower heavily impacted, burners and heat exchanger heavily rusted, can cause issues going into winter, evap coil heavily rusted, primary drain pan rusted causing water to leak from bottom of evap coil, inspected outdoor unit, condenser fan motor and contactor have been replaced, condenser coil heavily impacted, recommend cleaning coil for accurate pressure readings, checked amp draw, compressor over amping, explained can fail at any moment, upon checking presale temp split, unit is low on r22, explained r22 is obsolete as of 1/1/2020, upon checking temp split at all ducts there are over 5 ducts that have no airflow and 3 return duct

Customer called in stating that 2 outlets were not working, one in the garage and one on the back patio. Upon arrival both GFCI outlets were tripped and not resetting. Customer then informed me that they had a surge last week due to a powerful thunderstorm. Apparently there were sparks shooting out of a receptacle upstairs. I did check that outlet and its connections all is good. Recommended them to replace both GFCI outlets and install a surge protection to negate future problems

No cooling call, upon arrival customer that’s that thermostat went blank, checked 3 amp fuse and found that 3 amp fuse was blown, inspected thermostat wires and found that thermostat was not wired correctly, also found bare thermostat wire going to outdoor unit, replaced small section of thermostat wire, system does not have any flood protection, recommended adding wet switch and inline float switch to prevent water range that can occur due to a clogged drain line, there is also no plenum installed, ducts are coming off of evaporator coil, there should be supply plenum installed in order to get 100% efficiency out of the unit, system is cooling at this time however system is not cooling very well due to improper installation of the ductwork, also found that dual capacitor is bad reading out of tolerance, blower wheel is dirty, recommended replacing system due to not only improper installation but also the age and efficiency rating of the system, system is also short on ductwork all uni
