HVAC Service FAQs

What is the average cost to replace a home air conditioning unit in Atlanta?

The average cost to install or replace a home air conditioning system in the Atlanta, GA area is around $7,500. The typical range is from $6,500 - $12,500 because the price is determined by a number of factors, including the square footage of your home and SEER rating needed for your specific home. The make, model, size and efficiency rating of the unit chosen are also factors. Last but certainly not least, the brand of the HVAC unit and any extras, including zoning, smart thermostat, etc. have to be factored in.

How much does residential AC repair service cost in Atlanta?

On average, central air conditioning repairs in the Atlanta, GA area cost about $750. The low end could be as little as $150 for a thermostat fix and could go as high as $2,500 for something more complex. How much you should pay for a home AC repair depends almost entirely on what needs to be fixed. A simple fan fix will cost much less than a compressor repair, for instance. A professional HVAC technician will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimate and pricing.

What are the most common problems with residential AC units in Atlanta?

Lack of regular maintenance causes more problems associated with home air conditioning systems in Atlanta than anything else. Another common issue is refrigerant leaks, which can cause the unit to lose its cooling power. Other problems can include electrical issues such as faulty wiring or a malfunctioning thermostat, which can prevent the unit from turning on or properly regulating the temperature. You can avoid most AC problems with regular and seasonal HVAC maintenance because this will address any issues, as soon as they arise, to keep your AC unit running efficiently and avoid costly repairs.

Is it worth fixing a 20-year-old AC unit near Atlanta?

It depends on the specific issues with the unit and the overall condition of the AC unit. Generally, if a 20-year-old AC unit is experiencing major problems such as compressor failure or refrigerant leaks, it may be more cost-effective to replace the unit rather than investing in costly repairs over time. Older units are not as energy-efficient as newer HVAC models, meaning that it costs you more to run the unit. Check your energy bills monthly and ask for advice on the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution. This will help you determine whether to repair or replace your AC unit.

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling my Atlanta area home?

The #1 reason your AC unit is not cooling your Atlanta area home is your air filters are dirty. Clogged air filters can restrict airflow, reducing your unit's ability to cool the air in your home. Some other reasons could include low refrigerant which won’t allow the air to cool properly. A malfunctioning thermostat can prevent your AC unit from turning on or regulating the temperature properly. Blocked or dirty condenser coils on the outside unit can become dirty, reducing its ability to dissipate heat. One last thing to check would be a clogged drain line. Your AC drain line can get clogged with mold, mildew, and debris, preventing the unit from properly draining the condensation, which causes the evaporator coil to freeze up and not cool properly.

Emergency Atlanta Plumbing Service Company

Our residential plumbing services include:

Homeowners in the Atlanta area often face plumbing problems, even when their homes are relatively new that includes faucet leaks or clogged drains, burst pipe, backed-up sewer lines, or leaking water heater tank that can happen at any time without warning and may require professional help to fix them quickly before they cause more damage than good. Count on TE Certified for plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance services in the Atlanta Area.

Tankless Water Heater Repair & Installation Services

Tankless hot water heaters are a great choice for those who live in tight spaces, such as smaller kitchen or bathroom enclosures.

Compared to tank water heaters, tankless water heater systems offer higher efficiency, lower energy bills, endless hot water, extra space in your home (they don't take up as much space as a tank) and usually longer lifespans (15+ years compared to 10-12 years). In order to save money and energy, a tankless water heater system is the perfect choice.

The installation of this type is much simpler than traditional tanks because there's no need to install plumbing pipes under your sink! TE Certified can help you decide what size would work best with the available room space and power supply near where it'll be installed. Whether indoors near an electric outlet on wall socket/surfaces close enough so that electrical circuits won't become crossed during use, or outside we'll show you the options that you have.

Customer satisfaction is our number one priority, and we want to do everything we can to ensure you and your family stay comfortable all year round.

Call for easy scheduling.

Plumbing FAQs

How do I know if I have a water leak in my Atlanta area home?

If you know where your main water supply is located, turn if off and check the meter. If it is still changing, you know the leak is between your house and outside meter. If there are none inside (and this might seem obvious), then it's likely coming from somewhere else close by - like at least one other faucet or pipe nearby!

A leak is sometimes very obvious; other times you could have a leak for months and not know it. There are a few things to look out for if you suspect a leak in your Atlanta area home:

  • Look at your water bill to see if your usage has gone up with no apparent reason.
  • Any musty smells could indicate a leak that has led to mold/mildew.
  • Any signs of wall, ceiling or floor damage, including stains, warping or bubbling.

Professional plumbers can do a thorough inspection of your home and grounds to determine if you have a water leak.

Perform one system diagnostic for system that is zoned for three zones. Found dirty blower, rusted, evaporator coil, no clean out for condensate drain line, no TE flood protection, disconnect was off for outdoor unit, and a dirty, condenser coil. Inspected the outdoor heat pump and found that the compressor would trip the high pressure limit as soon it was energized. The compressor will need to be replaced, and the restriction would need to be addressed. Due to the cost of repairs and the nature of the failure, I would recommend replacement of the full system and to get the unit under warranty and have the customer join home care. The unit is not operational at this time. The disconnect was left off. The pressure is on the high side on the refrigerant gauge was so high it went into open line.

Came out to complete all sold work. Installed a TE Certified Flood Prevention Switch, which will shut the system off if water collects in the secondary drain pan. Flushed the drain line, which was completely restricted and backing up into the pan; this should be performed at least once a year to prevent future water backup. Added 2 pounds of R410a refrigerant to the system, as it was slightly low. Ran the system and verified refrigerant pressures, temperatures, and subcool. Also checked the delta T, achieving a 25°F temperature split within 30 minutes of operation. The system is currently running within manufacturer specifications. Advised the owner to join our maintenance plan to help prevent future breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.

Came out today to follow up on refrigerant pressures. On arrival hooked up gauges to the units. After letting the units run, found that both units were low on refrigerant, and both coils were dirty. On speaking with customer, customer elected to have both coils cleaned and topped off with refrigerant. After topping off units with refrigerant and cleaning the coils ran the systems for approximately 30 to 40 minutes apiece to ensure refrigerant levels were correct. After letting both systems run and monitoring the gauges both systems are now at the correct level of refrigerant and running as they should. At this time, both systems are up and running properly and there are no further concerns.

Arrived at the customer’s home to complete quoted repairs. Adjusted the invoice due to an estimate mistakingly being signed twice. Installed a wet switch on the upstairs and main floor furnaces and tested operation to ensure they function properly. Repaired the ground wire on the main floor furnace and moved it into the blower compartment. Replaced the weak 40/5 dual capacitor for the main floor condenser and tested to ensure it is the correct reading. Took apart both outdoor units and removed debris from inside. Rinsed off the coils with water and soaked in condenser coil cleaner for 15 minutes. Rinsed off with water once more and tested operation to ensure they work properly. Reported results to the customer. Based on our findings today, it might be time to think about getting a brand new system. Scheduled the customer to receive a quote for replacement of the main floor furnace/A/C tomorrow 2-5.

I hired this company to investigate a possible leak in my home. Based on the initial assessment, all signs indicated there likely was no leak. Despite that, the team decided to dig into my garage floor to search for one. During the process they also told me my water heater was not up to code and that if it were removed, reinstalling it would cost essentially the same as installing a new unit. As a result, I ended up replacing my water heater. Now I am left with a hole in my garage floor that I have to pay someone else to repair, and the new water heater does not heat the water anywhere near as well as the previous one. Overall, I paid a significant amount of money and ended up in a worse situation than when the service started. I’m disappointed with the outcome and feel the work performed did not actually resolve the issue I called about.
