HVAC Service FAQs

What is the average cost to replace a home air conditioning unit in Atlanta?

The average cost to install or replace a home air conditioning system in the Atlanta, GA area is around $7,500. The typical range is from $6,500 - $12,500 because the price is determined by a number of factors, including the square footage of your home and SEER rating needed for your specific home. The make, model, size and efficiency rating of the unit chosen are also factors. Last but certainly not least, the brand of the HVAC unit and any extras, including zoning, smart thermostat, etc. have to be factored in.

How much does residential AC repair service cost in Atlanta?

On average, central air conditioning repairs in the Atlanta, GA area cost about $750. The low end could be as little as $150 for a thermostat fix and could go as high as $2,500 for something more complex. How much you should pay for a home AC repair depends almost entirely on what needs to be fixed. A simple fan fix will cost much less than a compressor repair, for instance. A professional HVAC technician will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimate and pricing.

What are the most common problems with residential AC units in Atlanta?

Lack of regular maintenance causes more problems associated with home air conditioning systems in Atlanta than anything else. Another common issue is refrigerant leaks, which can cause the unit to lose its cooling power. Other problems can include electrical issues such as faulty wiring or a malfunctioning thermostat, which can prevent the unit from turning on or properly regulating the temperature. You can avoid most AC problems with regular and seasonal HVAC maintenance because this will address any issues, as soon as they arise, to keep your AC unit running efficiently and avoid costly repairs.

Is it worth fixing a 20-year-old AC unit near Atlanta?

It depends on the specific issues with the unit and the overall condition of the AC unit. Generally, if a 20-year-old AC unit is experiencing major problems such as compressor failure or refrigerant leaks, it may be more cost-effective to replace the unit rather than investing in costly repairs over time. Older units are not as energy-efficient as newer HVAC models, meaning that it costs you more to run the unit. Check your energy bills monthly and ask for advice on the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution. This will help you determine whether to repair or replace your AC unit.

Why is my air conditioner running but not cooling my Atlanta area home?

The #1 reason your AC unit is not cooling your Atlanta area home is your air filters are dirty. Clogged air filters can restrict airflow, reducing your unit's ability to cool the air in your home. Some other reasons could include low refrigerant which won’t allow the air to cool properly. A malfunctioning thermostat can prevent your AC unit from turning on or regulating the temperature properly. Blocked or dirty condenser coils on the outside unit can become dirty, reducing its ability to dissipate heat. One last thing to check would be a clogged drain line. Your AC drain line can get clogged with mold, mildew, and debris, preventing the unit from properly draining the condensation, which causes the evaporator coil to freeze up and not cool properly.

Homeowners in the Atlanta area often face plumbing problems, even when their homes are relatively new that includes faucet leaks or clogged drains, burst pipe, backed-up sewer lines, or leaking water heater tank that can happen at any time without warning and may require professional help to fix them quickly before they cause more damage than good. Count on TE Certified for plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance services in the Atlanta Area.

Tankless Water Heater Repair & Installation Services

Tankless hot water heaters are a great choice for those who live in tight spaces, such as smaller kitchen or bathroom enclosures.

Compared to tank water heaters, tankless water heater systems offer higher efficiency, lower energy bills, endless hot water, extra space in your home (they don't take up as much space as a tank) and usually longer lifespans (15+ years compared to 10-12 years). In order to save money and energy, a tankless water heater system is the perfect choice.

The installation of this type is much simpler than traditional tanks because there's no need to install plumbing pipes under your sink! TE Certified can help you decide what size would work best with the available room space and power supply near where it'll be installed. Whether indoors near an electric outlet on wall socket/surfaces close enough so that electrical circuits won't become crossed during use, or outside we'll show you the options that you have.

Customer satisfaction is our number one priority, and we want to do everything we can to ensure you and your family stay comfortable all year round.

Call for easy scheduling.

Plumbing FAQs

How do I know if I have a water leak in my Atlanta area home?

If you know where your main water supply is located, turn if off and check the meter. If it is still changing, you know the leak is between your house and outside meter. If there are none inside (and this might seem obvious), then it's likely coming from somewhere else close by - like at least one other faucet or pipe nearby!

A leak is sometimes very obvious; other times you could have a leak for months and not know it. There are a few things to look out for if you suspect a leak in your Atlanta area home:

  • Look at your water bill to see if your usage has gone up with no apparent reason.
  • Any musty smells could indicate a leak that has led to mold/mildew.
  • Any signs of wall, ceiling or floor damage, including stains, warping or bubbling.

Professional plumbers can do a thorough inspection of your home and grounds to determine if you have a water leak.

Come out today to perform one system HVAC service call. Upon arrival, customer stated that the thermostat was blank and that she had taken that thermostat to a different part of the home to verify it was still good and the thermostat was still working. Pond inspection of the system Found that the condensate pump was full of water due to the GFI outlet. It was plugged into had popped. After resetting the outlet and testing the condensate pump, the condensate pump was working perfectly and once the unit kicked on everything was working fine. Upon inspection of the system, found the blower well to be dirty, the contactor and capacitor were both weak and there was no UV protection. After speaking with customer, customer did not want to move forward with any recommendations. At this time system is up and running and see estimates for any further concerns.

No cool whole home. Found system to have shut down due to drain line safety tripped. Discovered evap drain pan full of rust material from evap coil having rusted over lifetime blocking primary drain. Air handler has large amount of biological growth inside of it. System lacks proper amount of return air and doesn’t have wet switch. Drain runs very flat. Contactor burnt, system is low on r22. Heat pump is dirty, outdoor fan motor has bearing grease leaking. System currently operating under these temperature conditions however system will largely struggle when temps rise. Quoted repairs, adding IAQ and suggested system replacement. Believe system to be oversized based on airflow and the fact that they have the only 4 ton system in townhome complex. Will follow up with customer tomorrow morning.

Pre home buy inspection for plumbing For the most part the plumbing system looks healthy. The exposed copper that is visible appears to be in decent shape. The drainage system that is visible appears to be in good shape. The water heater setup is both a Rinnai RUC98i and a standard 50 gallon tank type. Both the heaters are from 2014. The hot from the tankless feeds into the tank. The thermal expansion tank is functioning. The recirculation return line feeds into the bottom of the tank, this should be moved to avoid damage to the thermostat on the water heater. The flue exhaust for the tank type is single wall, this should be replaced with double wall as it is an unconditioned space. The exhaust for the tankless does not appear to be secured into the unit properly, this should be addressed. The temperature and pressure relief line for the tankless terminates on the floor, this should be routed to the exterior of the house. The inside of the tankless looks visually fine, however it is

Came to a no cool call . The customer told us they first noticed a burning smell in laundry room (directly under the unit) then after going into attic they noticed the blower was not on. Upon arrival we turned tstat on for call and found the blower was not operational. Further inspection showed the call was recieved and power was sent through the board leading to the diagnosis of a blown blower motor. We also inspected the limit switch on the blower housing and found it was blown as well and had no continuity. Blower motor and limit switch were both replaced and unit is operating to manufacture specifications. Recommendations: wet switch (ceiling saver) and APCO-X air scrubber.

Met with customer and spoke with them regarding their issue. Customer showed us upstairs to the master bathroom and stated the shower and right side lavatory sink are draining slowly. Customer states all other fixtures are draining properly in the home at this time. We confirmed the slow drains and presented the customer with estimates to clear the drains along with a bottle of Endure drain maintenance product. Customer agreed and after getting signature approval we began work. Removed hair and hard water buildup from both the sink and shower drain. Flushed both drains with hot water after fully clearing them out. Both drains are functioning properly and draining well at this time. Cleaned work area. Customer is satisfied.

Perform a 2 systems home care maintenance. Change filter, tested all electrical components, flushed drain line, tested thermostat, Tested both system on cool and heat, checked pressures and refrigerant. Units are running, however there are some issues that need to be addressed, let costumer know and left details and option on inspection sheet attach to this email follow with quotes and the options for a system upgrade considering the year of the unit. Costumer decided to move forward with main floor repairs. Work was done and tested. However costumer understands that system is at the end of life expectancy so there could be other repairs in the future. Thank you for choosing TE Certified,

Our heat went out, which wouldn’t be a big deal, but our toddler just got back from the hospital and one of the key things we need was a consistent temperature. I messaged TE at 8am, and they were here within hours. Nathan, the tech, was fantastic. He was honest about the repair (which was super easy). He noted some parts that would eventually need to be replaced but didn’t push me hard on it. We talked about my toddler who is suffering from asthma and he showed me some upgrade options. I’m definitely going to spend my money with him, and excited to have him come back out.

My Tech, Ryan, went above and beyond what I hired him to do. He was incredibly thorough, very collaborative, and worked with my audio equipment to try and figure out why I was suddenly getting interference. Glad I hired TE Certified and they sent Ryan out to fix my issues. My only complaint would be this: when I called TEC, the scheduler on the phone told me there was no service call fee....which sounded a little fishy. I confirmed with her, and again....she said there was no service call fee. So I didn't hesitate to get on their schedule. HOWEVER....when Ryan arrived and we reviewed my problem, he then told me it would be $149 to inspect everything and diagnose. I think that approach was a little questionable, but it definitely did not have any bearing on Ryan's service.

Jonah and Corey from TE Certified recently serviced my two HVAC units (nothing broken, just part of the annual service contract). Both of them were professional, knowledgable, friendly, and highly competent, and they both demonstrated a superb level of technical skill and HVAC expertise in assessing the units (one Carrier Infinity I purchased from TE in 2024 and one builder-grade Lennox that came as-new with the house when I bought it in 2020). Jonah found on the Lennox that the capacitor was failing and the contact switch board was corroded. One measure of the confidence I have in Jonah and Corey is that while I could have replaced these components on my own, which I normally do because I know I’ll do the job correctly, I instead told them to please proceed with the work. Jonah and Corey had the parts replaced and the unit back together faster than I could have done it, and I do have confidence that they did the job likely better than I would have done it, which is saying something coming from me (OCD engineer here). So, in closing, yes, Jonah and Corey from TE Certified did a stellar job. I highly commend them to the owner of TE Certified, and I highly recommend TE Certified to anyone who needs HVAC work, electrical work, or any of the other services they offer. It’s hard to find excellent, professional, reliable, competent, and intelligent service, but Jonah and Corey, and TE Certified, consistently deliver these traits.
