13 year old Trane gas furnace and AC (located in attic /upper level system) System not heating and flashing hard lock out code. System has tripped the high limit several times, reset system and observed that the gas valve is stuck closed. Removed high limit to examine, high limit is burnt up. I used my borescope camera to look in at the heat exchanger behind the high limit to see why it’s getting so hot. Inside the system I observed multiple cracks on the heat exchanger, this is the culprit for the over heating. A cracked heat exchanger is a safety hazard and could lead to carbon monoxide issues. I also observed that the blower wheel is impacted with debris and the blower motor is over amping trying to reach full RPM. I went over all of my observations with the homeowner and went over repair vs replacement. Due to age, condition, cost of temporary repairs, and equipment at the tail end of life expectancy, I recommended updating the equipment. The homeowner requested we send out a ins

The customer has decided to stop installation and will be looking into more options for replacements. Upon arrival, the customer showed us to the tankless unit in the garage and explained there is repeated error code 10 . Customer also experienced limited hot water supply only when filling the mater bath tub. With customer’s approval, we began running diagnostics on the tankless heater. Rinnai tech support stated that the issue was a dirty combustion assembly. In order to resolve this the issue will need to be disassembled and cleaned. Due to the age, condition and the unit is undersized for the home we recommend replacement.

Performed carbon monoxide inspection, checked refrigerant levels. Found cracked heat exchanger, dirty filter, dirty blower, dirty ducting. Rusty burners, failing inducer motor, dirty ac, minimal flood protection, burnt contactor, weak run and dual capacitor. Condensing unit appears to have been struck by large object and is damaged. Performed refrigerant leak detection. Informed customer of cracked heat exchanger, advised for safety concerns not to operate furnace. Left thermostat in off position. We had a smell of burnt plastic upstairs and the electrical wiring seemed a likely culprit. Called TE and their team sent their techASAP. Technician (Brandon) was excellent. Found the issue was in the transformer in the garage, fixed it and still had time to replace an out-of-date smoke?CM detector at our request.
